Hatching and Crosshatching

Hatching is a form of shading using only lines. It is a compilation of single sets of lines facing in one direction and allowing their distance to create value. Crosshatching, as it’s name suggests, is several sets of lines layered over each other to create value.

Light Source and Cast Shadows

When the sun shines on an object, it usually creates a shadow on the opposite side of the object. This little gumdrop, for example. Look at where the light from Mike’s sunshine hits it’s surface and then check on the opposite side of the gumdrop – there will be a shadow.
